The Cathedral

It’s the main Catholic place of worship, is a structure dating back to the 9th century with architectural features ranging from Romanesque to Baroque to Rococo. The cathedral is dedicated to the Apostle St. Andrew. Predominantly of Arab-Norman Romanesque architectural style, it has been reworked several times, adding Romanesque, Byzantine, Gothic and Baroque elements. The cathedral includes the adjoining Basilica of the Crucifix also dating back to the 9th century. You can also find the Crypt and the famous Cloister of Paradise.

Arsenals of the Republic

The Arsenale was the shipyard of the Old Republic, where ships were built and repaired. The Amalfi Arsenal preserves its original early medieval structures intact, and is the only shipyard of the time that can be visited today in the Mediterranean area. It’s a monument to Amalfi’s sea power, and is surprisingly well preserved in its unique medieval form. Its impressive elegant architecture, modelled from stone and mortar, consist of two parallel aisles covered by a double series of separate cross-vaults, supported by ten pillars.

Paper museum

since the 13th century in Amalfi a real paper industry developed that saw in a short time the birth and development of countless paper mills that have helped to make this country famous all over the world for its precious paper production. Most of the Paper Mills were planted along the Valley of the Mills where the paper museum is still present today.
